The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has urged political parties and election candidates to verify anyone claiming to represent it, saying it has not agreed to join any coalition ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, alleged that expelled members were presenting themselves as party leaders to obtain money from prospective candidates and political organisations.
He said their expulsions had been confirmed by court rulings and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Aniebonam specifically urged the APC, NDC and ADC to check representatives’ credentials. Anyone who had paid purported candidacy or alliance fees to unauthorised individuals should seek reimbursement, he said.
He maintained that the NNPP, identified by its basket-of-fruit logo, remained independent and would announce any future electoral alliance.
Aniebonam named himself, national chairman Dr Agbo Major, national secretary Oginni Olaposi, national treasurer Prince Toyese and national woman leader Aisha Kade Onyia as officials authorised to speak and make decisions for the party.
