LAFIA, Nigeria — The North-Central Renewed Hope Youth Vanguard has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying his administration’s policies provide grounds for continuity beyond his first term.

The group announced its position at a press conference in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Sunday.

Its coordinator, Abdulhakim Usman, said the endorsement followed what the organisation described as an assessment of political leaders and prospective presidential contenders across party lines.

According to Usman, the group considered areas including economic policy, implementation of government programmes, youth inclusion and social welfare before reaching its decision.

He said the organisation believed Tinubu’s administration had introduced structural reforms which should be allowed more time to produce results.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the most vision-driven, courageous and pragmatic leader to guide Nigeria towards sustainable prosperity beyond 2027,” Usman said.

The statement represents the assessment of the North-Central Renewed Hope Youth Vanguard as political mobilisation begins to gather pace ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

Usman said the group’s endorsement was based on four areas it considered particularly significant to young Nigerians: increased access to education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, fiscal support to state governments, social intervention programmes for vulnerable citizens and longer-term economic reforms.

He said the Vanguard intended to continue mobilising support for Tinubu across the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The group also expressed support for former Nasarawa State governor and former senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, whom it described as an important political figure in the region and within the All Progressives Congress.

Usman said the organisation stood in solidarity with Al-Makura in his role as North-Central coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and praised his involvement in political mobilisation at grassroots level.

“We stand in strong solidarity with our leader, the North-Central Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to declare our unwavering commitment, resolve and total support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections,” he said.

The Vanguard also thanked Tinubu for giving Al-Makura responsibilities which, it said, would help communicate the Federal Government’s policies to communities across the North-Central region.

It described the former governor as one of the political figures who played a significant role in the formation of the APC in 2013.

Al-Makura was elected governor of Nasarawa State in 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, one of the political parties that later merged with others to form the APC.

The youth group said his participation in the merger process, political meetings and negotiations contributed to the emergence and subsequent development of the party.

Usman said the organisation also welcomed the appointment of people from the North-Central region to senior positions in the Federal Government and other national institutions.

He said such appointments had strengthened the region’s representation at the federal level, while urging political leaders from the zone to continue supporting policies that, in the group’s view, could improve opportunities for young Nigerians.

The endorsement comes as political groups, party organisations and support movements begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

While the North-Central Renewed Hope Youth Vanguard has committed itself to campaigning for Tinubu, other political parties and prospective candidates are also expected to intensify consultations and mobilisation as the election approaches.
